Sixteen new homes have been completed at Ellesmere Port and handed over to housing provider ForHousing.

The two-bedroom new-builds on Mill Lane have been designed for families of up to four and are available for affordable rent.

The new homes were built by Vistry Partnerships for Cheshire West and Chester Council as part of a wider development of more than 100 properties for rent and sale.

ForHousing has taken ownership of the 16 new homes after signing a 20-year lease.

Resident testimony

Tenant and mother-of-one Kellie (not her real name) was one of the first to move in after previously living in a one-bedroom flat.

She said: “This place means the world to me. Being here is going to give us so many more opportunities, especially for Callum* – I know it’s his forever home.

“Here I’ll be able to have Callum’s birthday parties, have his friends round to play, do sleepovers – the little things you can’t do in a flat.”

Her new home also means she is closer to her parents.

Kellie said: “I’m now five minutes from my dad, 10 minutes from my mum, and we see them all the time.

“I’m really close to my family, and I can picture Callum playing football with his grandad in the garden already.

“I feel like I’ve waited my whole life for this, and I just want to say a massive thank you to my family and ForHousing for helping me move somewhere where Callum can grow up and thrive.”

Janet Lawton, Strategic Housing lead (HMC) at ForHousing, said: “It’s wonderful to see Kellie and her neighbours enjoying life in their new homes – we know that a good quality home provides the foundation for a brighter future.

“The support we offer at ForHousing around budgeting and other life skills can help new tenants at Rivacre, some of whom were previously homeless, become more confident looking after their new home.

“Up and down the country, demand for affordable homes is outstripping supply.

“We’re really pleased to be working in partnership with Cheshire West and Chester Council to build greatly needed new homes like these that make more things possible for more people.”

ForHousing manages around 5,500 homes for Cheshire West and Chester Council.
